Google Talk & GChat integration: How to talk to customers right from GChat.

Last Updated: Jul 08, 2013 12:57PM EDT
JUNE 2013 NOTE: IF YOU UPGRADE FROM GCHAT TO GOOGLE HANGOUTS, YOU WONT BE ABLE TO GET ALERTS IN GCHAT. FOR MORE ON THIS, PLEASE GO HERE .

WE'RE WORKING ON A FIX AND WE'LL UPDATE YOU AS SOON AS ONE IS READY.

We really try to make Hipmob fit within your existing workflow(s). Because we're heavy Gmail and Google Apps Mail users here at Hipmob (stay logged into it all day), we set up a GChat/Google Talk integration.

Here is how it works:
  1. Connect your GChat account, and accept Hipmob in your buddy list. (Instructions below)
  2. When users need help, you'll get a notification with a URL in GChat (or in your IM client, for example if you use iChat)
  3. Click the URL, and you'll go to a Hipmob chat window. From there, talk to users!

How to connect Hipmob to your GChat/Google talk account

  1. In the Hipmob dashboard, click the button on the top right, and select "Account" (or go here)
  2. Below the "Personal Information" section, you'll see a section titled "Connect existing chat account". Enter your Gmail or google apps mail address. Press Connect.
  3. You should see a buddy request in your GChat buddy list. Accept it.
And you're done!
